Do you believe that there's treasures in the ocean

I love rainy days....

I've always been drawn to the colour blue, and I think this has to be my favourite shade. When I thrifted this dress it was floor length and HIDEOUS, although I think I may have cut it a bit short.

These boots from zu are great for stomping in puddles, and my felt hat kept my head nice and toasty all day.

Seventeen Candles

1 lighter + A pitch black bathroom = some slightly emo, blurry pictures-obnoxious teenager

Om nom nom...

PRESENTS!

Left to Right
A Crucible of Creative Fashion Talent by Barbara Permezel: Mum found this in a second hand book store, it documents the Australian Gown of the year from 1953-1993. Each year has a gorgeous sketch of the winning gown and a page discussing the dress and the competition that year.
Let yourself sew: This is a magazine from the early 70s on teenage DIY fashion given to my mum by my granma. She found it at my grandparents place last weekend, and knew Id love it.
Australian Memories in black and white, Fashion: The title pretty much says it all, gorgeous black and white pictures of vintage fashion and their relevance to Australia. The pics from the 60s are insane!
Vogue Fashion: Starts with a description of Vogue throughout the decades, and then goes onto an encyclopedia of fashion labels. The descriptions aren't anything special, as they are so short, but the pictures are amazing.

I'm obsessed with tea! On average I drink about five cups a day, and we are slowly building a collection of gorgeous tea cups and saucers.

Breakfast at Tiffany's has been my favourite movie forever (although I did adore the little mermaid as a child... *cough* did *cough*), so I was ecstatic when I was given this gorgeous box adorned with art nouveau images from the broadway musical.

But best of all.......................

My dressmaker's dummies!!!!! I have wanted one for about two years now, but as they retail for $250+, I didn't think I would ever get one, let alone two! A few weeks ago mum was looking through the classifieds when she found one for less than a hundred dollars. Surprisingly she managed to keep it a secret! Anyway, last weekend she got a call from my grandparents saying they were at a friends garage sale and had spotted one for $20, who could resist that?

Finally some veeery dodgy outfit shots:

Thanks for the sweet birthay wishes!

Edge of seventeen

Tomorrow is my seventeenth birthday, so this is the last few hours I will spend as a sixteen year-old. I never get terribly excited over birthdays, as I find it horribly awkward opening presents in front of others, and I hate the fake happy reactions that are necessary when receiving an undesired present. I know that makes me sounds like a spoilt little brat, but I've never been one for loads of attention.

I am however looking forward to a new birthday year. As it falls around the middle of the year, I find it useful to make some resolutions to last me until 2010. Here's a few:

1. Worry less about other people's opinions, and do/say/wear what I want.
2. Spend less time on the computer and in front of the TV, and more time reading, sewing and schoolwork (it has just hit me that I only have 18 months left).
3. Eat healthy and excercise, rather than diet and feel down.
4. Spend less time stressing and more time daydreaming!
I started the day wearing this:

But I changed the top in the afternoon to this:

(HAHA POSE HAHA)

yay yay clashing prints yay
Does anyone else change outfits throughout the day? and I don't just mean for an event at night etc, but sometimes I'll get bored of something, or be desperate to try two different looks with the same item of clothing that I can't wait a few days or weeks to try it out.
Goodbye sixteen! You've been good to me, but lets hope it only gets better.

Ripped to shreds

Sometimes it's nice to pare down the layers...

I thought my purple kitchen cabinets went nicely with the skirt.
A few of my friends were horrified with my see through cardy, but I don't think there's anything wrong with showing some skin, it's not like this is an overtly sexual outfit. That being said, I don't think I would wear this outfit to school, although my college is extremely relaxed when it comes to clothes (no uniform whatsoever!), I don't think they would appreciate a visible bra.

When I found this skirt at a local thrift store, it was about a size 20 and floor length, but I fell in love with the material. I know that purple is supposed to be the least wearable colour, but for some reason I am always draw to it. I often buy second hand clothes from the plus size section, as there is much more room for error when it comes to altering, and it's always nice having left over material!

P.S. I'm going away for a few days for my baby cousin's christening, but I'm working on a big Vivienne Westwood post. She is hands down my favourite designer, and the reason why I fell in love with fashion.

I like to pretend it's not winter. Even though I love winter...

This singlet/dress is from Alice Springs (where I was born) in the Northern Territory. This outfit was MUCH too cold to wear outside, so I added some cream tights under the leggings and socks and grey jacket.

Also wearing DIY leggings, socks from Myer and bangle???

So what if I like to muck around on our torn and battered couch?

These pictures really don't do justice to the colours, they are much more vibrant in real life. We left Alice Springs when I was only a few months old, and I haven't been back since. I can't wait to go and visit it one day and see all the places that my parents talk about. They tell me it's like being in a different country, the culture and landscape is so different. I'd love to go if only for clothing like this!

A mildly new hair style and some new favourite clothes

I'm the type of person that gets bored quite easily, so I need to change my hair every few months. I'm not quite brave enough to chop it all off, although I'd love a pixie crop. I really like Alice Dellal's hair style, but as I have very fine hair and quite a small head, I think shaving one side would be a big mistake. Instead I've done a very low side part, flipped the hair over and pinned the other side right back.

I'm also trying to grow my fringe out, as I really don't want the boring, side fringe style.

I showed off my new hairstyle last night:

My mum's friend gave me this dress about 6 years ago to wear at her new years eve cocktail party. It has sat in a drawer since, but now I'm wondering why have I not been wearing this more?!?!?! I love the 80's bodycon, and gorgeous pink flower print. Mum gave me these cool geometric tights when she decided they were too young for her.

I found this coat in a charity store last monday, and it is definately one of my best second hand buys to date. It's 75% wool, a perfect size ten, made in Turkey and .....wait for it...... only 12 bucks!!!!!

I think this outfit would have looked better with a black blazer, but I'm yet to find the "perfect" one.

and wash it away down the kitchen sink

I bought this dress from the Glebe markets in Sydney a few months ago. I hemmed it (about a metre) and took it in, and I'm ecstatic with the result. There is something so refreshing about wearing pretty summery dresses in the dead of winter, I get so tired of seeing everyone wearing nothing but black layerd over black layered over black (maybe with a touch of grey).
I love market shopping for so many different reasons. The up-beat atmosphere, the range of people; from tiny babys in prams to uni students and eccentric old women, the vast quantities of food from all across the globe... But most of all I love the clothes! Never knowing what amazing (dirt cheap) second hand finds will be on offer, and knowing that none of my freinds will have the same item. It's always fun to have a chat to the store owner and find out why they are selling the contents of their wardrobe, or where they have collected their vintage collections from. My favourite buys would have to be the dresses (absolutely no way I can pick a favourite from these) and an almost-good-as-new studded Charlie Brown bag that definately needs to be featured on this blog in the near future.

There is only one market near where I live, but it mostly just sells expensive crafts. Whenever I tak a trip to Sydney I make sure to visit all my favourites; Glebe, Rozelle, Bondi, Surry Hills and Kirribilli. Melbourne also has some great markets, but I'm not as familiar with them.

A few nights ago my mum and I were going through a suitcase of her old clothes that she had stored in my room, when we came across this leather jacket. She wore it while riding on my dads motorbike in the 80s, but said it was always too big for her. I tried it on for a laugh, and was so surprised when it fit me like a glove. Mum said it was always much too big for her, but I am a lot broader in the shoulder sthan her so it is just right. I have been on the lookout for a leather jacket for a while now, but the ones sold in chain stores are much too fashion-y, and I haven't been abe to find a well fitted one in an op shop. Who knew that the perfect jacket has been right under my nose for the past year!

The youth is starting to change

Shoes keeping me awake at night:

At first glance I thought these Rodarte thigh highs were leggings. Then I realised they were the most amazing long boots I have ever seen. The Mulleavy sisters really can do no wrong.

Found this image in one of my many inspiration folders, so I have no idea where it's from. Can't you imagine a little pixie skipping through the woods in these? I would looooove to own them, definately the most interesting and creative boots I have ever seen.

I've been searching for a pair of floral doc's for a long, long time. Anyone know where I can get a pair? Anything featuring florals gets my tick of approval, especially when printed on arguably the most iconic punk item. I can imagine Vivienne Westwood stomping all over London in these in the 70's.

Another mystery image found on my computer. I recently learnt how to crochet, so I'm currently going through a mild obsession, shame it's the middle of winter.

I fell in love with Balenciaga when I saw the spring/summer 2007 runway show featuring the C3PO-esque robotic suits. Since then I have loved every single one of Nicolas Ghesquiere's collections, which have all been enhanced by the amazing shoes. He must be doing something right if he has created the "it" shoe for the majority of the past few seasons. The three shown above are all so creative and wonderfully ridiculous.

Easily my favourite shoe of the season. Words cannot describe how desperate I am to own these. The architecture, the patent leather, the chunky heel, the clean simple line.... Now all I need is $860.00.... any ideas???

.......and an outfit:

pom-pom's make life a whole lot funner

This is my new favourite cardy, found at the Vinnies in Newtown. I've been on holidays for a week and after catching up on daytime telly and thrifting, I feel it's finally time to re-discover my social life. Oh and make a start on my Hamlet creative. Well firstly I have to read the play.
Wore this out for coffee with friends, and after three hours and only three drinks bought, with many friends coming and going, I think it's fair to say the owners officially hate us. This may be enhanced by the fact that this happens at least weekly.

Best ring ever. Well. best felt ring ever.
